Designing Form & Function into Mill Creek Kitchen Remodel

This project was all about maximizing space, enhancing flow, and creating a cohesive, stylish environment that truly feels like the heart of the home.
The Challenge
Located in Mill Creek, WA, this kitchen presented several design and layout obstacles. Its unusual shape, low ceilings, and poorly placed appliances created a cramped feeling that affected both functionality and aesthetics. The access doors to the exterior deck also limited space and natural flow, making the transition from indoors to outdoors less seamless. Additionally, the adjacent TV area felt disconnected and underutilized, further impacting the overall harmony of the space.
The Opportunity
Our goal was to reimagine this space, improve its flow, and create a cohesive design that matched the clients’ style and needs. The project was a perfect opportunity to transform an awkward layout into a warm, inviting, and highly functional kitchen that could serve as the heart of the home.
The Results
Working closely with Slater Interiors, we focused on the kitchen’s centerpiece—the range backsplash—which became a stunning visual statement. We adopted a blue/gray and white color palette accented with gold touches, blending cool neutrals with just enough warmth for balance.
A key design achievement was enhancing the flow from the interior to the exterior deck, allowing natural movement and making the outdoor space feel like an extension of the kitchen. We also reconfigured the layout to maximize space, creating a more open, inviting area that encourages gatherings and family time.
The adjacent TV space was integrated more smoothly into the overall design, improving functionality without sacrificing style.
