Tenhulzen Construction Celebrates their 25th Anniversary
May is National Remodeling Month — and for our team, it carries a little extra weight this year. 2025 marks 25 years since Scott Tenhulzen founded Tenhulzen Construction in Mill Creek, Washington. Twenty-five years of design-build projects, repeat clients, and crews that show up early and stay late to get the details right. As a Seattle area remodeling contractor, we’ve had the privilege of transforming hundreds of homes across King and Snohomish counties — and we don’t take a single one of those projects for granted.
National Remodeling Month is a great moment to look back at what got us here, and a better moment to talk about what we’re building next — for our team, our community, and the homeowners who are dreaming about their own remodel right now.
A Family Foundation, Built in the Pacific Northwest
Tenhulzen Construction didn’t start in a boardroom. It started in a family. Scott grew up in the trades, learning from his parents Pat and Jack Tenhulzen, who instilled a no-shortcuts approach to construction long before Scott put his own name on the door in 2000. That family-first mindset is still the backbone of how we run projects today — we treat our team like family, and we treat our clients’ homes like our own.
From Mill Creek, we serve homeowners throughout King County, Snohomish County, and the greater Seattle area. After 25 years, our reputation is the result of one boring, beautiful truth: we do what we say we’ll do, and we keep showing up.
Twenty-Five Years of Continual Improvement
Longevity in construction isn’t about staying the same — it’s about staying curious. Over 25 years, our process has been refined project by project, lesson by lesson. Today, working with our team means a clear, transparent path from first conversation to final walkthrough.
That’s also what makes National Remodeling Month meaningful to us. Every May, the remodeling industry takes a step back to celebrate the craft, the professionals behind it, and the homeowners who trust us with their biggest investment. After 25 years of that trust, we’re more committed than ever to earning it.

How We Build
Our core values shape every job site: accountability, attentiveness, a comprehensive approach, creativity, resourcefulness, and truthfulness. That last one matters most. Honest, transparent communication — about budget, timeline, and the inevitable surprises a remodel uncovers — is what separates a great experience from a stressful one.
CAPS Certified: Designing Homes for Every Stage of Life
One of the things we’re most proud of as a Seattle area remodeling contractor is being CAPS certified — Certified Aging-in-Place Specialists. CAPS certification, awarded through the National Association of Home Builders, means our team is specifically trained to design and build homes that support homeowners through every season of life.
That can look like a curbless walk-in shower, wider doorways, an open-concept main floor with single-level living, or smart lighting that quietly does the right thing as the years go on. The best aging-in-place design isn’t obvious — it’s just thoughtful. Our clients keep the home they love, with the function they need.
Paired with our NKBA-certified project consultant on staff and Scott’s past tenure as president of the Washington Painting Contractors Association, our team brings credentials that match the craftsmanship.

Built on Relationships, Not Transactions
Ask anyone who’s worked with us — the project is the easy part. The relationship is the point. Investing in our team translates directly to the client experience: skilled artisans who care about the work, project leads who communicate proactively, and an office staff that keeps everything moving.
It’s also why we stay involved in our community. Every year, our team commits to at least one charitable project, and we’re proud partners with the Mill Creek Rotary and local nonprofits doing meaningful work in our neighborhoods. The same people who build your home also help build the place you live.

Twenty-Five Years In
We’re still energized by the same thing that started it all — the chance to take a homeowner’s vision and turn it into something they’ll live in, love, and brag about for decades. National Remodeling Month is the perfect moment to thank every client, partner, and team member who helped get us here. Whether you’re thinking about a kitchen refresh, an addition, or a full-home transformation, working with a 25-year Seattle area remodeling contractor means you’re hiring a team that has seen it, solved it, and stood behind it.
Don’t take our word for it. Check out our 5-star reviews on Google — or hear it straight from past clients on our YouTube channel. Their stories say it better than we ever could.
